So this week, we have an oldie but a goodie. The charmingly playful, colorful, vintage Pyrex.
As I've mentioned before, I have a soft spot (ahem...addiction) to kitchen and bar ware. The women in my family share this gene, and we feed each other's habits. Try not to judge too harshly.
A few years back, my friend Paige bought me my first set of Pyrex: these delicious avocado mixing bowls (the pattern is called Spring Blossom 1). Since square footage in my kitchen was limited, I immediately donated my boring clear bowls (lame sauce) and never looked back. I love them for so many reasons, but mainly because they are dishwasher and microwave safe, are crazy-durable, and pretty enough to serve straight from kitchen to table.
About two weeks ago, I added this charming pink dream to my collection (the pattern name is Gooseberry). My Grandmommy has moved from her home of 40 years into an apartment, and was preparing for an estate sale. The grand kids came over to preview and claim a few things the weekend before the sale. I knew it had to be mine (along with about 30 other things). Then she told me that this was a wedding gift that she and my Grandpoppy received when they married in 1955. Wow. Grandpoppy passed away just 2 weeks after Henry was born in 2011, so that makes this piece extra special.
So in summary, I love vintage Pyrex. I want 500 more. You can find them on eBay or most any antique or thrift stores. Pyrex Love is a great online resource to help you identify your patterns and see what's out there. Pyrex doesn't make these anymore. Corning Inc. sold them off a few years back. Some other companies make the glass measuring cups and casseroles that most of us are familiar with, but they no longer showcase the playful patterns and colors. Foolishness.
Happy hoarding. I mean happy Friday. And if anyone sees any Mod Kitchen, New Dots, or Stems Pyrex lying around, I'll take them!
Anyone else out there share my obsession for vintage Pyrex?
