I love our house with its bright, airy style, but there is a part of me that longs for a dark, dramatic room just for grown ups, filled wall to wall and floor to ceiling with books.
I found this image of Nigella Lawson's library on Pinterest about a year ago, and it pretty much sums up everything a library should be. I'd probably be drinking a glass of Scotch, but otherwise she hit it right on the nose.
My version, though, wouldn't be complete without a Chesterfield Sofa, that most classic turn of the century piece (1900s, not 2000s. Will we ever refer to 2000 as the turn of the century?) that seems like it should just smell like old wood, old books, and sweet cigars. We could in theory have this in our house today, but with a baby/3 year old/cat/giant horse-dog, it's probably not the best time to invest in a piece that, if harmed, would cause me to ugly cry in the worst way.
And also, a picture of a fancy bird wearing a hat, obviously. Plus a dash of super-soft pink to balance out that masculine sofa.
I'm seriously Jonesing for an Oriental rug, but can't stomach forking out the dough for it. I'm hoping to stumble upon one at a yard sale for like $50 from an old couple who don't know what they've got. I'll just keep on dreaming.
That amazing wood floor is antique French reclaimed wood I spotted in a local Dallas showroom. One room's worth would cost more than I make in a year, which considering my stay-at-home-design-work-by-the-hour status isn't saying much, but you catch my drift.
Do any of the readers out there actually own this sofa? If you snack on it, do the crumbs get stuck in the tufting? Inquiring minds need to know.
