But it's actually possible. And it's not so hard. You just need a little patience and a little Elmer's glue. Seeeee?!
It's so gloriously 1980's that I can barely contain myself. Remember Todd and Margo's house in Christmas Vacation? Yeah, this would totally have been at home there.
"Then why is the carpet all wet, Todd?" "I don't know Margo!" |
We had a smaller group this month because of graduations and end of school stuff and spring and life. And not everyone brought inset circles, because we're relaxed at modern quilt club and that's how we roll. But the quilts that everyone brought were amazing.
This post could alternatively be called "quilt club: awkward talking faces." I have no hopes of a career as a photo journalist. I do not have that gift that the paparazzi have of catching celebrities talking and NOT capturing weird faces. Sorry guys.
Shannon made this super cute West Park tote bag. You can read about it on her blog to get info on the pattern and her process.
This paper piece triangle quilt is out of this world. Also, first awkward face: sad bunny.
Elizabeth did the reverse inset circles to make this runner. Color choices are spot on. Awkward face 2: blowing on something hot.
She also made a sweet baby quilt with Goodnight Moon fabric. Pattern is New Wave from Elizabeth Hartman.
The back of the quilt is as pretty as the front. As Elizabeth said when asked why she went for a complicated quilt back instead of going the easy way out with a solid fabric, she said"what the heck was I going to do with all of this leftover Goodnight Moon scrap fabric?!" Excellent point.
Anna brought a transparency quilt block she was working on from one of our former classes.
Angela brought back her triangle quilt that she made for her son. Also, she was the only one that ended up with a cute face in the photos. Congratulations, Angela.
Her son picked out the fabric for back of the quilt. And her quilt label made us cry. She got as far as "when I asked God to make me a mother and he sent me you..." before I burst into tears.
A simple and sweet HST quilt front...
with a reverse inset oval on the back with the quilt label.
Deb's circle block. Love that cranberry color.
And first time attendee, my friend Karen (YAY! I will bring ALL OF YOU into this club) and her inset circle block.
Martha is currently obsessed with houses. This one has the house numbers of every home she's lived in. Sweet idea.
Bright and cheerful radiating houses.
And me, daintily holding my circle block as if it's made of some toxic material. According to my husband, it was. It hung on our bedroom wall for approximately one hour before my he declared that it had to go. It's hanging above my sewing machine now. Probably for the best.
Clearly this is my official Quilt Club Face. This is the quilt as you go pillow I shared with you guys last week.
On a 100% unrelated note, I got that gingham shirt a couple of weeks ago for $2 and I just needed to tell the world about my amazing score.
Here's the quilt club information for any Dallas TX locals are interested in joining us. It also has all of the past study guides in case you want to try your hand at a new technique. Next month we're picking from any of the past 7 lessons and bringing something to show and tell. After THAT we're going to sew our way through a quilting book, which I'm pretty excited about.
Christmas Vacation image credit whoever it was that made that movie. How about Chevy Chase. It was probably him. It had like 9 producers. Too many to list here.
