They also systematically destroy all of the things that I love.
Case in point, this poor, pitiful Crate and Barrel pillow on my sofa. So. Sad.
So, yeah, this is why I'm posting about pillows all of the time now. Yeesh. We've been long overdue for new pillows around here. Enter this beauty.
This little ditty is a project from the book Quilt-As-You-Go Made Modern. I've used this technique once before when I made this toddler pillow sham awhile back, but that was before my sweet brother bought me the book with real, actual instructions in it. Always a plus.
The beauty of this is that it's pretty fast, you quilt each piece (or group of pieces) right onto the batting as you piece it together, and you don't have to measure anything. Win. Win. WIN.
I'm looking forward to trying this technique out on a larger quilt. Since you work with quilt blocks/pieces that are roughly 12" square, it allows you to do some intricate quilting on your home sewing machine that you otherwise wouldn't be able to pull off on a big ol' quilt. I'm using it to make a T-shirt quilt now. But more on that later.
I used the same process that I talked about last week with my Anthro-style pillow to add piping and a zipper. You'd think I would be an old pro at it by now, but I had a bit of a snafu this time around.
Here's what the back looks like. I had enough left over from one of the fabrics on the front.
It seems to be quite happy here on my sofa. In case you're wondering about the other pillows, the one on the far left was made years ago from 2 Anthropologie napkins, the purple is from Crate and Barrel (the corner was chewed off by my dog and is next up for replacement), the black and white one is from Ikea and a steal at only $10, there's the one I just made, and then the one in the back right was from Anthropologie and was one million dollars, but super worth it.
One day I hope to be able to place cute things on my coffee table like books or flowers and have them left alone. One day.
Henry has claimed this new pillow as his own and asked me, respectfully, to step off. No way buddy. My blood, sweat, tears, and hot glue went into that pillow and it's MINE.
I've got at least one more pillow project in the works. I know you guys are just dying to see more posts about pillows. Sorry. I could throw in a post about how our refrigerator and toilet broke when we went out of town last weekend to spice things up. Only time will tell.
MAY I INTEREST YOU IN…
