If you're like me, one of the projects you want to do but have never gotten around to is creating a growth chart to track your kiddos growth. It's seriously been on my to do list since Henry was born, ahem, 3 years ago. It was probably the first DIY I pinned on Pinterest.
Whoops.
Well, luckily, it looks like a growth chart found me. I received an email from Justin at Storied Marks who found my blog through a coworker. He and his wife are trying to potty train their daughter. Suckers. Kidding, Justin. Kind of.
He has started a small company called Storied Marks to create these beautiful, heirloom quality growth charts - he calls them rulers - when he couldn't find anything on the market that he liked for his daughter. Um, this is 400 times cuter than what I could DIY, you know, if I ever got around to it.
I thought it was pretty awesome, and it seemed like something that many of you with littles would like, so I decided to share! I'm a sucker for handmade goodies from small family businesses.
Storied Marks has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to get this business off the ground. It's a big goal and a brave move. It reminded me of the financial risk we took on when I decided to stay at home after Max was born. Cutting our income in half seemed almost insurmountable at the time, but God provided in some really amazing and unexpected ways. God's answering some prayers for them as well. Kickstarter named this project as one of their 3 favorite IN THE WORLD this morning. Looks like I'm not the only one that likes it.
Check out the video to see how these beautiful customized pieces are made. Also prepare to cry when he's talking about the dining room table that his grandfather made by hand. Since I read books to my kids from a bookshelf handmade by my Grandpoppy, it definitely struck a chord.
He's offering some cool incentives (including growth rulers) for people who donate. If you're not familiar with Kickstarter, nobody is charged unless the project is 100% funded, so not some big risky Bernie Madoff kind of thing. You can check out the details here.
If all goes to plan, the first waves will be in production in time for Christmas. There are future plans for a "fancy" version with more exotic woods and colors as well as a more standard lower budget option.
Also, I love how this blog is creating a little creative online community. If any of you out there are creating wonderful handmade things, please send them on! I would love to share your handmade goodness on the interwebs.
Best of luck Justin! Also, your daughter is stinking adorable.
